Arsenal Comment
A fan of the Yankees since first donning the uniform on my first baseball team as a 5 year old in 1982, I instantly fell in love with the legendary pinstripers. When I luckily got a Don Mattingly rookie card in the first pack of baseball cards I ever got in 1984, my fate was sealed.
Of course, being a Yankee fan in the heart of Angel country in Southern California is never easy, as one often gets labeled a "bandwagon fan" or worse, more obscene titles. Throughout much of my youth though, the Yankees were terrible, consistently languishing lower in the standings. Since they missed the playoffs from 1982-1994, winning had little to do with it.
How many fans are willing to take the train 3,000+ miles from LA to NYC just to watch their team play? Exactly...
Greater than my specific love for the Yankees is my passion for the game of baseball in general. In my opinion, it is the perfect sport and I remain a dedicated follower of the game in general, allowing me to be an educated, reasonable fan beyond just my dedication to the Bronx Bombers.
I have played baseball and soccer throughout my entire 33 years on earth and have always enjoyed each sport with a diligent eye for detail and analysis. My passion for both sports has survived well into adulthood as I still enjoy playing, and helping to coach my daughter's soccer teams.
In addition to being a passionate athlete and sports fan, I have also had a lifelong love of the written word, reading and writing as much as possible throughout the years.
Occasionally, I have grown frustrated with what often seems like an anti-intellectual slant to a lot of the sports debate and writing that I have encountered in my lifetime.
Drawing inspiration from conversations with friends, family, a former boss who knew me well, I have finally taken the step of pursuing two of my greatest passions concurrently, trying my hand at sports-writing.
I hope to infuse my writing with a passion for sports, love of quality writing and detailed analysis, helping to create intelligent, thought-provoking content that I hope you'll enjoy reading as much as I enjoy writing.
