Domenic is a fan of:
Washingon Redskins, Baltimore Orioles, Maryland Terrapins
No debate activity to show. Maybe Domenic should get in the game and start debating?
I'm a lifelong sports fan, and my favorite teams are the Baltimore Orioles, Washington Redskins, and Maryland Terrapins, although I root for all DC/Baltimore area teams. My favorite sports figures growing up (and still) were Cal Ripken Jr, Coach Joe Gibbs, Coach Gary Williams, Art Monk, and Darrell Green. When I was in high school I enjoyed creative writing, so I figured I'd combine that with my love of sports and knowledge thereof.
I'm a 1999 graduate of James Madison High School in Vienna, VA, and a 2003 graduate of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA, where I majored in broadcasting. I've been in and around sports since I was a child as a player, coach, and a fan. I coached youth basketball in Vienna, VA from 1996-'99, and consistently led the league in technical fouls. In one famous incident in 1999, I was tossed out of a game for protecting a player from what I perceived as poor officiating. I can still be heard barking at umpires from my perch in section 17 of Oriole Park at Camden Yards. I worked at WGMU radio at George Mason University from 2002-2003, using the alias "Stan Donato," where I hosted the station's highest rated program (according to website traffic). Some of my antics got me in trouble from time to time, including prank calling the university switchboard, library, student newspaper, and dining hall on the air. While station management frowned upon most of this (they liked the ratings though), it got me a cult following amongst listeners and students. On my last day at the station I played the Eagles' "Already Gone," and left the studio.
When I'm pretending to work at my day job, I'm a hotel manager, but in reality my profession of choice is that of a sports fan, analyis, critic, etc. I try as hard as I can to be a positive force on behalf of my favorite team, and while I'll be critical if necessary, I try to do it in a constructive way. When I'm not watching the O's, Skins, Terps, or anyone else, I'm probably reading or watching something about one of them (depending upon the season). I attended my first Oriole game at Memorial Stadium with my Dad when I was eight years old. The Orioles beat the Oakland A's 4-2 that day, and we had the most amazing seats, about halfway up the lower concourse behind home plate. While the "old lady" was far from a thing of beauty, to that point I had never seen grass so green, tasted hot dogs so good, or smelled beer so cold! Since then I've been to numerous other games, and I try to get out to at least ten or eleven or twenty per season if I can. Each time I go I pay a bit of homage to that eight year old boy sitting in Memorial Stadium with his father. Go O's!!!
