Going Green: Five Faces to Follow for Saturday Night's Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol
While all the talk and focus might be on a fast whirlwind storm called Hurricane Irene, Bristol, TN will play host to a cyclone of its own on Saturday night called "The Irwin Night Tools Race."
Since 1978, Bristol Motor Speedway's second race date has been a late summertime night time affair. Racers like Cale Yarborough, Darrell Waltrip, Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Jeff Gordon, and Kyle Busch have laid their claim to fame at "The World's Fastest Half Mile Oval."
Whether it's the carnage due to the 43 cars all around the track or the drivers negotiating around the concrete bullring at lightning fast speeds, it's no wonder why Bristol, and specifically, this night race, draws a huge crowd every year.
Although it's lately been the "House of Kyle Busch," there's something in that late summer air up in the Tennessee valley that seems to shout a fresh face winner in Victory Lane. When all is said and done, the tempers will be at a maximum after 500 laps and as the saying goes, "it's all over but the crying."
Patience is a must at this track, but that's like telling your teenaged daughter to calm her hormones down when she sees Justin Bieber on TV. Or in some cases, it's like reminding your best friend not to use Avada Kadarva on you on Twitter...or real life. Whatever the case, it's important for a driver to not mash in their fenders, but when the going gets tough, the tough turn pro!
Throw out fuel strategy at this track because cautions will be happening. Tire management is somewhat essential, especially during the latter portions of this race. By running a smooth race and not eating up the good in those Goodyear Eagles, a driver might find themselves in position to go for a two-tire stop near the end of the race.
So who's got the mettle and steel to rock and roll at Bristol? You've come to the right place here at "The Podium Finish," as we'll be "Going Green: Five Faces to Follow For Saturday Night's Irwin Tools Night Race at Bristol!"
