I think Damon will help the Tigers next year. The guy is still one of the best in the league at working the count and getting on base. He is an impact player whether he is a DH or not. The part I don’t understand is why they traded Granderson. I thought it was a financial move but then they gave 8 million dollars to a 36 year old Damon. As a Yankee fan, I’m wondering if they saw something in Granderson’s game that made them wan’t to part ways.

I feel it’s more of a case of the Tigers are a bad fit for Damon, not that Damon is a bad fit for the Tigers. He can still hit, but anytime he spends in the field will be an adventure. Though other teams didn’t want to pay him as much, his career (possibly extended) would have been better off with a team that he spent more time as a DH. This move may be the unofficial end of his career here with the Tigers. With less quality hitters to protect around him and more time in the field it is possible this will be the last contract offered by any MLB team. At least with the a Tigers he can grow his hair long again along with the Grizzly Adams beard.
