Great call! I couldn’t agree more, Kovalchuck would only kill our chemistry we’ve got kicking. Sure picking up Kovalchuck as a UFA would be a different situation, but even then I’m not sure I ‘d want him, we’d still end up losing youth in the long run. DL knows what he’s doing, I can’t wait to see the Kings 2 years from now. The way Quick’s playing who knows whats going to happen with Bernier, if he also comes about like he should we’ll have quite the trade bait!

The 92/93 team was great, but drop Gretzky, Kurry and Lucky Luke the teams depth drops greatly. Sure there were a few players I didn’t mention, but I would still have to say this team edges them out. More depth, youth and our d-core is much more solid. Jon Q has already gone about matching the single season win total, leaving me to believe he could be the best Kings goalie ever.

signing Kovalchuk would have killed the kings. we strive on our youth, Kovalchuk would make us give up a large core just to trade for him, not to mention all the players we’d lose via free agency when we have to pay Kovalchuk the big bucks

imo. theres no way we could have made this trade while keeping all the players you’ve mentioned. Even if we made the trade while keeping those players, theres NO CHANCE we can re-sign them all. We have our Kovalchuk in Anze and he’s locked up for 7 years. Seeing what the Devils gave up, DL could have easily matched/exceeded the offer but in no way wanted to give up our youth. At the moment we don’t have the talent to match up with the Hawks but in 2-3 years if King continue to develop the way we have been we’ll exceed the depth. Manchester’s full of young talent waiting to make their way up. JJ, Hickey, Doughty and Matt Greene will be the core of the dirtiest dmen in the NHL.

Kovalchuck would only bring the team down. He isn’t going to do anything with New Jersey expect him to leave town in the off season.

Kings want to make a difference in the Playoffs they needed a guy like Kovi…Dont want to hear the Devils gave up alot to rent a player cause the Kings could have paid the Ransom. Kovi could score 50+ in the West

Kovalchuk went 4 an out in his first playoff trip, not exactly someone who can be relied on to step it up in the playoff’s. Making the playoff’s this year will be a huge thing for the Kings, we aren’t expecting to make push while in the playoff’s tho it would be great. Kovalchuk would just put an end to our core of young players as we’d have to give up a couple to trade for him, while losing a couple more if we were to give him the money he asked for. I’d rather keep the 4-5 players we’d likely lose after all would be said and done. We need to lock Doughty up for life before we do anything!
