I don’t think the recognition seems less, it is less. Yes, big NBA fans like us know he’s an all time great, but his quiet nature, his fundamental style of play, I absolutely think contributes to his being underrated. He is an all time great in sports history, and you have to be kidding me to think that an average sports fan places him in this light. He is in my top 10 all time, and I’m sure he might be in yours, but there is no way most people put him there. It’s a combination of market, style of play, personality, etc.

Being quiet and playing in a smaller market city may make you more unrecognizable, but that doesn’t make you underrated when it comes to the sports community or within the sports fanbase. Duncan has gotten plenty of recognition from his peers, media and fans. It seems less, because of where he plays.
