Shango….Unbeatable??? Ummm…pretty sure they lost the Super Bowl last season to the Giants. Yeah they won the 18 games before that including 6 games against the terribly weak AFC East. Now I am not saying they weren’t good because they were. They were quite possibly the BEST offensive team in league history in 2007 but they still lost the most important game. I guarantee you that any player in the league would rather go 8-8 and win the Super Bowl than go 16-0 and lose it. So they are beatable.
…..
I tried to make this argument earlier and lost but I still believe it should be considered. If you compare numbers between Cassel and Brady you will see that Cassel has been better than Brady was at the same point. And that comes when Cassel had not started a game since high school. I am not saying Cassel is better than Brady…he isn’t. But he is a solid quarterback and can be a great quarterback in this league when he learns to play the position better.

BUT THE POINT IS THIS: The defense is old. They need to upgrade substantially all over the defense and the best way to do that is through the draft. Yes with Brady the offense is absolutely dominant but with Cassel instead of Brady the offense could still be VERY GOOD while the defense would be MUCH improved. They could also use a good running back that doesn’t get hurt every week.

And THAT would make this team unbeatable.

I wouldn’t say Unbeatable cause 18-1 means they lost!…But as much as I dislike the Pats…To even entertain the Idea of trading a QB who has 3 rings on his fingers and 2 SB MVP’S (Pelle gave you props bro!) you can not even think this!..the thing they should do is Franchise tag Cassel as a insurance policy if Brady isn’t 100%.. it’s a steep price… but would bring conituity to the team at that postion and worth the price!

They are the closest thing to unbeatable that I’ve ever seen with Tom Brady at QB. Everyone knows it.

We’ll see now that the boy genius is gone. I bet he’s wanting NE to trade Brady to the Lions…lol! If so, watch them go worst to first like the Phins.

I think they beat themselves in the SuperBowl…They thought they had already won and dropped some uncharacteristic plays down the stretch.

….I never seen a team that good in my life.

Why do you have to have such an amazing quarterback to win in this league???

Kurt Warner, McNabb, Big Ben, and Joe Flacco are currently still playing and NONE OF THEM are in Brady’s league. But their teams still win.
…..
The Patriots need serious help on the defensive side of the ball. I am sure they will always compete with Brady there but they could be even better with Cassel at QB and a couple high draft picks on the defense.
….
think about it….a very good offense with Cassel AND a very good defense with the right picks. OR a dominant offense with Brady and a old and slow defense. The defense has hurt the Pats in the past few years and until they upgrade it they will have trouble in the playoffs and Super Bowl.
…..
It would be a bold move to trade brady and maybe it is a little crazy but personally I would be more afraid of the Pats if they significantly upgraded their defense through the draft and had Cassel playing quarterback than if they keep the defense and have Brady.

Only the offense was that good. The defense was average. They won all their games for the season and it was impressive. But their defense almost cost them multiple games during the season.
…..
I can’t stand the Patriots but I actually wanted to see them win the Super Bowl to witness a perfect season.

Matt nailed it in saying that Brady can be shipped for some high picks. There’s nothing wrong with Cassel at all. What shango didn’t mention was that when the Pats lost in their most recent SB visit, Brady was part of the reason why.

Brady’s knee problem is problematic, so now’s the time to trade him while you srtill can get some decent value for him. They need a running game (like Maroney ever was the answer there to begin with) and/or a defensive upgrade. Not a knock against Brady ‘cause 3 SB rings don’t lie – but I think his ship in Foxborough has sailed and it’s time for him to go.

I agree, I think the value you get for trading Brady makes Cassel and all of that worth more then Brady.

Not me …that was the best part of the whole season..by the way there were a few games they eeked out like the MNF game vs Ravens they changed the rule for both feet in and no push out completion… on the last play the pats won on a bs catch for the game winner that play wouldn’t happen this year so that should of been a loss!…they had some tuck luck from the refs to aide them. But that’s my biased opinon.

WOW…I can’t believe how you guys are bailing out on Brady. I’ll take him! Cassel did a great job in the system, but for you to dump the best QB of this era because Cassel played well down the stretch. Think about what you are saying! A proven winner who is still in the prime of his career for a QB that did not play football since high school until this season. Sorry, you have to prove more than that to me. All I can say is “WOW”.

I remember that, but I also remember the Ravens doing stupid things to lose down the stretch. I hated on the Pats all year long last year and cheered their loss…BUT..I’ve NEVER seen a team that good in my life. Plus…with a defensive genius like Belichek at the helm. I would not worry too much about their D…You know that they have lost DCoordinators like crazy over the last few year. They’ll be back….unfortunately.

Don’t get me wrong from a football standpoint 16-0 was Impressive and I remember arguing with a friend that 16-0 or 0-16 could never be done…but it did so pretty unbelievable stuff that it happened in back to back years…it’ll never happen again especially if they add 2 more regular season games to the schedule…

The NFL is a young man’s game, and while Brady is by no means “old”, he’s damaged goods, and if the Pats take a chance on him coming back 100 percent and move Cassel, it will come back to haunt them. Remember Steve Young and Joe Montana and how that ended? I see something like that here.
