That’s easy to say “the Rams can spend their money anyway they want” NEWS FLASH I don’t know how long you have been able to pay attention to the NFL but the teams don’t choose to spend that much the PLAYERS do…Why? Every single year the bar for the #1 pick goes up and up… It’s the standard rule… So if a team goes 1-15 is it their responsibility to have to pay their #1 pick 50 million?… NO but do they have too if they want to rebuild? YES you have to draw the line in the sand some where… back in 1998 Ryan Leaf the 2nd biggest BUST got $11.25 million guaranteed money…. now in 2010 it’s 50 million?… Where does it end… Teams (Owners) don’t have a choice they have to spend the money or they lose there #1 drafted player. It STUPID!… Plus remember it may be officially the RAMS money but really it’s the fans money…. That’s how this league works without the fans their is NO NFL!

$11.25 million in 1998 and $50 million in 2010….that’s inflation – impacting all aspects of the economy, lol (actually it’s no laughing matter). So what you are saying is the teams are forced to spend their money. Okay. But if they didn’t have spend it, they would pocket it and do nothing. That happens in baseball SO much. Teams like the Pirates and the Marlins just don’t spend their money, and they stink because of that, and then they complain about the teams that win who spend some money. It’s a business. As much as the fans wish they could have their fair say, they can’t. Ultimately it’s the owners’ decision.
To me, people seem to want the salary cap because they feel jealous toward the teams with money. That’s ridiculous. Those teams earned it, they owe it to themselves and their fans to try to put the best team out there, even if the cost seems absurd.
Please…no socialist ideas in this country. No salary cap.

This issue really isn’t about dollars & cents it is these players have proven nothing at the professional level. Even on horrible teams there shouldn’t be a rookie making the most money on the roster. They must prove their worth and then the bucks will come. If they are worried about the injury factor, take out an insurance policy or find a new line of work. Injuries are part of the game and you know that going in.
