Hey Bro, Listen to what i said It was a idea I kicked around and I still think that would be way cool to have that… make rosters in the NFL 54 men not 53 and that 54th guy would get paid just to do that one job, fight for the ball to get it’s first chance to win, You can keep the sudden death part I’m cool with keeping that the same, but make that first possession worth something, Not the fate of physics of a coin flipping in the air and sometimes ricochet off other peoples helmets than fall to the ground and have that decided the Super Bowl! Cause don’t tell me that “oh your defense should just step up” PLEASE! these are the 2 VERY best teams the NFL has to offer on the biggest stage and you know the 2 best offenses in the NFL the one with ball last will win PERIOD! But I can’t cry till the end of time about this and it’ll never get changed cause changing it would give the NFL less power to dictate who they want to see win.
I see two viable options for the NFL.
1. Stick with what is in place.
2. Go to a variation of the college overtime rules with sudden deathstarting on the third possesion if necessary. The ball would be placed at the 50 instead of the 25, since we are dealing with professionals.
I think college does it perfect. There is no reason to not change to their exact format. It gives both teams an equal chance.
I just wrote an article about this very subject- go to sd72degrees for my take….

The coin toss doesn’t say who WINS! The coin toss say’s who gets the ball, if your defense is worth ANYTHING you’ll be just as happy to see your defense on the field.
