I agree totally. He is by far the best pitcher in the A.L and deserves the A.L MVP

There is no way you can say he is by far the best pitcher with the way CC and Weaver are pitching

Ok while Verlander doesn’t have the best ERA in the MLB, hitters are only hitting .185 against him which leads all of baseball. Weaver might have that sub 2 ERA but Verlander leads in a lot of other stats, WHIP, strikeouts, wins, innings pitched, and OPS. Verlander probably won’t win MVP because those kind of stats aren’t seen as important as ERA, but they’re important. So I definitely agree and he deserves at least some consideration for the MVP.

Those are all good points in debating for him to win the Cy Young but for a pitcher to win the MVP he has to be better then all the other pitchers and there be a lack of hitters who are worthy

Ok well wins and strikeouts are obviously seen as important, but the WHIP, IP, and OPS aren’t.

The whole point of my argument is that Verlander is not that much better then the pitchers he is competing with for the CY Young and since there are plenty of good hitters putting up big numbers there is no way a pitcher will win the MVP since the Tigers might not even make the playoffs

The Tigers will make the playoffs. With their good pitchers (verlander, penny, porcello) will help the Tigers make a run. Their out and infielders (Caberra. Guillen, Ordonez, and catcher Victor Martinez). The Tigers right now are 3 games up on the Indians in the A.L central.

I understand that, I mean I’m not saying he will win MVP because I doubt he will. But I’m agreeing with the statement that he should at least get some consideration for it. Especially if he keeps this up the rest of the year.

With out Verlander, the Tigers aren’t in first.

The same can be said about all the other pitchers who are in the running for the CY Young and probably all the hitters who will actually be considered for the MVP

he never said he should win just that he should be considered, and the season verlander is having he should be in the mix but i dont think he deserves to win but definetly in the mix

Why should someone be considered for an award if they shouldn’t win it. A pitcher who might not win the Cy Young should not be considered for the MVP

I agree with Gibbs on this one. If you want to consider Verlander for the MVP, then you might as well consider CC, Weaver, Beckett, and the other leading pitchers as well. Verlander is having a great year, but he’s not so far apart from the other leading pitchers that he should be considered MVP. He might not even win Cy Young. The MVP list this year already has plenty of guys who are very deserving. No need to add Verlander, especially when he’s not above and beyond other leading pitchers.

He is a great pitcher and should be in the top 5 of al cy young

Verlander won his league leading 18th win. Better chance to win a award for the A.L.
