Comparing what Dez Bryant did to Terrell Owens’ antics is like comparing apples to oranges. As I said in my argument, just as someone not holding their hand over their heart or standing during the playing of the National Anthem makes them no less of an American and no less a part of the United States, Dez Bryant’s refusal to carry Roy Williams’ shoulder pads makes him no less a member of the Dallas Cowboys.
I’m sure Terrell Owens carried someone’s shoulder pads when he was a rookie and look how he turned out so not adhering to this time-honored tradition is not an indicator of whether someone will be a team player or not.
Hey NY guy…. Let me take it a step further with you pledge to the flag example… What Dez did is NOT only putting his hand on his chest and removing his ball cap… But to me he basically turned his back to the flag… Now if you were at a ball game and seen someone purposely turn around and not even face the flag would you think their American?… Yeah maybe you would cause by contract cause they have a Driver license and citizenship in the U.S. right?… but that does that really qualify them as American?… Ask yourself that? turning your back on the flag when the entire stadium is paying thier respects for their freedom to me is a indication of immaturity for one!… And also is someone who takes their freedom not very seriously and EXPECTS IT!… That to me is UN-AMERICAN … So what Dez did is disrespect the code of players that paved the way for him… when he was just “sperm”… To me I see a PUNK that got PAID that hundreds of other players that are just as good as him and he acts like this?… What a JERK!
I have to agree. It is a special case. The NFL team execs were quite disrespctful to Dez coming in so he has a right of refusal to any hazing!
I was by no means OK for him to refuse being hazed. He needs to earn his way on the team just like every other rookie in the league before him. I don’t care what someone has been through before getting to the NFL because more than likely it or something like it has happened to somebody before you. Also its not like he has such superior talent to any other player that warrants him getting out of being hazed. Every rookie player be it a first overall pick or Mr. Irrelevant is open to being hazed. The same way that the upperclassmen on every varsity football team ever always haze in some manner the younger players on the team. Skill wise they may have more natural talent then a lot of their older teammates, that’s why they are playing ahead of their grade, but they still have to put their chin down and deal with it because they need to earn their place on the team both on and off the field

It doesn’t matter is Dez Bryant did or not. What matters is the fact that when your new to a team and you don’t bond with a team then you cant be a team just look at what going on with the Redskins. NFL network Had a debate about this and the outcome wasn’t that he or didn’t carry Roy Williams shoulder pads it about TEAM there is no I in Team. Just look a T.O
