Evan, you do know who own the Mets right? The Coupon family will not sign Cliff Lee, citing “loss of money in the Madoff scandal”, while at the same time investing millions to start up a wrestling promotion. As much as Met fans will clamor for this, it won’t happen.

As a Yankee fan, I’m not sure I see Lee in Pinstripes either. If Andy and Javy are gone, then maybe it’s workable, because his salary will equal theirs combined, but if either return, it ain’t happening. To be honest, I’m so up in the air about it because it’s bordering on collusion if he does sign with the Yanks, but it’s within the rules so I guess I have to live with it. Don’t expect the Mets to sign Lee though. Maybe Philly, maybe Boston, even Tampa might throw a bid out there, but the Mets will get cheap when the moment comes and continue to wallow in mediocrity and live on the promise of “potential” that never quite comes.

The Mets have a great offense? REALLY? It’s 4th worst in the National League with a .250 team batting average great? Is 4th worst in runs and hits good?
The Mets CANNOT AFFORD CLIFF LEE. Omar Minaya is too cheap. And besides, it is ultimately Cliff Lee’s decision where he goes. So which is more prestigious: The Yankees with their 27 Championships, or the Mets, with their 2? Come on. Lee is one of the best, he wants to be WITH the best. There is no doubt in my mind that Cliff Lee will be a Yankee.
