For months now, people have been saying that the New York Yankees would have a horrible season. Some people said it would be a train wreck, while others thought it would be a season full of unreached goals and old, overpaid stars underperforming.
The Yankees have really proved all of their critics wrong so far. They have really turned back the clock this season! You can almost call them youthful! Just kidding, but anyway these old Yankees are rallying right now and they have all put up some great numbers. Here are a few Yankee notables who are putting up huge numbers:
Travis Hafner - 35 years old (6 HR, 18 RBI)
Vernon Wells - 34 years old (7 HR, 15 RBI)
Ichiro Suzuki - 39 years old (28 H, 4 SB)
Lyle Overbay - 36 years old (5 HR, 15 RBI)
Mariano Rivera - 43 years old (12 SV, 2.03 ERA)
Andy Pettitte - 40 years old (3 W, 4.06 ERA)
Hiroki Kuroda - 38 years old (4 W, 2.30 ERA)
Pretty old, right? They will just keep getting older when guys like Alex Rodriguez (37), Derek Jeter (38), and Kevin Youkilis (34) come back from the disabled list. The Yankees also have guys like Robinson Cano, Phil Hughes, and C.C. Sabathia stepping up. These fighting Yankees have made their fans very happy so far. Joe Girardi is pulling all of the right strings right now, and he is looking like a master-minded genius. Vernon Wells played 3B the other night for the first time in 17 years.
When the Yankees get some of their guys back from the disabled list, they have to hope that they are productive. They don't want their guys coming back slumping, but rather as positive reinforcements. Right now, this young season is looking pretty good for the Yankees. As they say, age is just a number and the New York Yankees are really proving that right now!
