Pedroia Returns Tomorrow
The Red Sox should get a big energy boost tomorrow when Dustin Pedroia gets back in the Red Sox lineup for the first time since fouling a ball off his foot. The second baseman very easily could be considered the heart and soul of the team and his return couldn't come at a more critical juncture. The team lost ground to both the Yankees and Rays in the division and wild card races respectively. If they hope to remain in the chase, they desperately need Pedroia's energy and never-say-die attitude.
Welker's Status Still Up in the Air
Wes Welker's return from a serious knee injury has been well documented this offseason. What Patriot fans are still unsure about is when they'll see Welker actually back on the field. He continues to make progress in practice, but the team has yet to decide whether or not Welker will travel to Atlanta for Thursday's preseason game.
Holt Done for the Season
As Welker makes his way back, another reciever spot has just opened up on the New England roster. Veteran Torry Holt will not play for the team this year after they placed him on season-ending injured reserve with a knee injury that will require surgery. The 34-year old signed a one-year deal with the Pats in the offseason. Holt did not say if he would retire or try for a comeback after the injury.
Schobel Retires
One potential option for the Patriots to replace Ty Warren has gone by the wayside. While the team had interest in free agent defensive end Aaron Schobel, the career Buffalo Bill has instead opted for retirement. Despite conversations with a handful of teams, Schobel will finish his career after being released by the Bills earlier this summer. Warren was put on season-ending IR last week by New England, leaving them with spots to fill on both sides of the line alongside Vince Wilfork.
