Celtics vs. Heat, Game 5

The Celtics will once again try to dispatch of the Heat in their first round playoff series with Game 5 at 7pm tonight at the TD Garden.  Miami staved off elimination thanks to a playoff career-high 46 points from Dwayne Wade and some key missed free throws by Boston down the stretch.

Expect better focus and better intensity from the C's tonight at home.  The Heat are still a one trick pony.  The tricks may be extremely impressive, but Jermaine O'Neal's been a complete dog and Boston should close out Miami tonight.

Red Sox Win Wild Opener in Toronto

Josh Beckett was roughed up again, but the Sox managed to outslug the Blue Jays 13-12 in the first of a three game series.  Beckett stuck around just three innings, giving up nine hits and eight earned runs, lifting his ERA to a robust 7.22.

The offense managed to bail him out though, especially catcher Jason Varitek.  The captain continued to show critics that the rumors of his demise may be untrue.  Varitek finished 3-for-5 with a team high 4 RBI last night.  He's hitting .357 with 4 home runs (2nd on the team) and 8 RBI in just 10 games this season.

Bruins Advance, Second Round Opponent TBD

The Bruins advanced to the NHL conference semifinals for the second straight year with a 4-3 win over the Sabres in Game 6.  With 8th seeded Montreal pushing the top-ranked Capitals to a Game 7, the B's must wait until Wednesday to find out who their second round opponent will be.  If Washington hangs on at home, then Boston will play 4-seed Pittsburgh with the Pens getting home ice.  If Montreal pulls the upset, then the B's will have home ice against the 7-seed Flyers.

Daisuke Matsuzaka Pitches Simulated Game

The Red Sox starter was called up earlier this week after a trio of solid starts in Triple-A Pawtucket.  Now, it's Dice-K's turn to show that he's really ready to succeed on the Major League stage once again.  2009 was an unmitigated disaster for Matsuzaka, but he claims he's bought into the Sox program and feels stronger than he has in awhile.  The 69 pitch outing yesterday was a warmup before his first start of the season against the Orioles this Saturday.

Savard Set to Make Return in Second Round

The Bruins will likely get Marc Savard back for the second round of the NHL playoffs.  Savard was cleared for contact earlier this week and has been practicing with the team since.  Boston will have at least three full days off before their first game of the conference semifinals, which should be plenty of time for Savard to clear any and all medical tests.  He was diagnosed with a Grade 2 concussion after taking an elbow to the head from the Penguins' Matt Cooke back on March 7.

Pats New TE Failed Drug Tests at Florida

Aaron Hernandez was named the Mackey Award winner as college football's best tight end this past season, yet slipped all the way into the fourth round of the NFL Draft.  The Patriots took Hernandez despite reports of marijuana use and failed tests while with the Gators.  Hernandez says that he was upfront with NFL teams about his drug use and the reasons behind it.  He passed his drug test at the NFL Combine and will not enter the league's substance abuse program.
