In May 11th action from the Texas Station Gambling Hall & Hotel in Las Vegas, late replacement Willie “The Great” Nelson (18-1-1, 11 KO’s) slugged his way to a ten round unanimous decision over Yudel Jhonson (12-1, 8 KO’s). Jhonson found himself on the canvass in the 2nd round but returned the favor in the 4th round. Nelson took control in the late rounds though and took the decision by scores of 95-94, 97-92, and 97-92 and handed Jhonson his first professional loss.

Also on the card, Jack “The Ripper” (11-0, 8 KO’s) took a controversial eight round split decision over Alexander Brand (17-1, 15 KO’s) by scores of 77-75, 77-75, and 75-77.
