What the WWE fan usually sees on television is a product of top notch writers, but sometimes life writes a better script. From time to time, real life events have infiltrated wrestling storylines, and the realism brought the story to life more than any writer ever could. From Randy Savage's love of Miss Elizabeth to the love triangle of Edge, Matt Hardy, and Lita, real life stories have made for great on screen performances. This last week saw a real life scenario play out on screen, and while the conclusion is still in the future, as of now, it is a story with more negative than positive.
Last friday, Teddy Long announced to the world that Drew was having visa problems, causing him to be escorted off the Smackdown set. This seemed like a clever plot turn in the ongoing story of Drew, Teddy, and Matt Hardy, but things aren't always as they seem. As Monday rolled around, Wade Barrett was also conspicuously absent from programming as he was "meeting with WWE officials regarding the consequences of Nexus' actions against Vince McMahon". Considering he was the only one "meeting" and Nexus never annointed him leader, this would seem quite odd. That is, until some real news broke late Monday night.
Those two stories are directly linked in real life though not on screen. In fact, the first is what actually happened. Both Wade Barrett (Stu Bennett) and Drew McIntyre (Drew Galloway) are currently facing actual visa issues, prohibiting them from appearing on television from this point forward. Sources say that both are back home across the pond (Barrett is from England while McIntyre is from Scotland) trying to get their issues sorted out, but until then, these men cannot be seen on television. This poses a major issue, especially given the huge role Barrett has in the Nexus storyline.
The silver lining is that Britain's paperwork is supposedly not terrible in terms of working out visa issues, so it is conceivable that Barrett could be back as early as next week. For some reasons, reports say that McIntyre's issues could take longer, though I have not come across anything that justifies why McIntyre would have more trouble than Barrett. I have also yet to find information as to why Sheamus, who came over to work for WWE around the same time as McIntyre and Barrett, has not had any visa issues of his own. I'm guessing that someone pointed it out to him early, but then why didn't he share the info with his British isle comrades? It's a weird situation, and one we hope gets resolved soon. Stay tuned as we will bring you the latest on this story as any info gets out. For now, just hope that the paperwork is easy so we can see these two talented men back on TV as soon as possible. If there's issues, this could be bad news for the Nexus. For WWE's sake, here's hoping no issues arise.
