If it was a movie, Gordon Hayward (above, center) would have been the hero. His three-pointer just before time expired would have swished through the net and the 70,000 Butler fans at Lucas Oil Field - heck the entire state of Indiana - would have rushed the court and mobbed the Bulldogs star.

But in reality, Hayward's halfcourt heave bounced off the glass, off rim and fell harmless to the floor.

And truth be told, No. 1 Duke was a little bit better than fifth-seed Butler all night and the Blue Devils made just enough plays to capture a 61-59 win in the most thrilling NCAA tournament championship game in a long, long time.

What a way to end the college basketball season.
