Wednesday Updates: Akeem Ayers Visits Lions
413
- Yesterday, UCLA linebacker Akeem Ayers came in for a visit with the Detroit Lions. Although, I don't think the Lions will pick Ayers in the first round, I think he would be a fantastic pick in the second round or if they wanted to move back up to the first round to take him. Even with his lack of straight line speed (ie 40 time), I think Ayers will be a solid strong side linebacker in a 4-3, but I think his size and skillset, which includes pass rushing, makes him better suited as an inside linebacker in a 3-4 defense.
- I have updated the list of players that have visited with the Lions so far. Check it out, and let me know if I'm missing anyone.
- Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk has a nice breakdown of what teams can and can't test during these draft visits.
- Dave Birkett of the Free Press has a look at linebacker Mason Foster of Washington. I have to say that I'm far more impressed with him after reading the piece.
- Utility man Stefan Logan has cut back on spending with the lockout in place. It doesn't surprise me one bit. Logan played in the CFL for awhile where salaries range between 30K to 60K for players like Logan. He got his big break two years ago when the Steelers signed him to a two year deal.
- In case you forgot, the lockout battle begins today in the courts of Minnesota.
