Von Wafer, know your damn role and shut your mouth
| Written by: bpaul @ Gino's Jungle

Excuse me if the headline was a little bit too aggressive. I've been waiting for months on end to put some sort of wrestling reference on this blog and today I saw the green light flash. If you don't understand the wrestling reference, I advise you to scroll down to the video at the bottom of the page before you continue reading.

Now, onto Von Wafers need to know his damn role and shut his mouth. Yesterday, Von was quoted by Slam Online saying, I’m not just trying to make it; I’m trying to play, too, just making it is not enough for me.”

If you haven't happened to watch any of the Celtics preseason games, outside of an average game against Philadelphia (in which the Celtics lost) Wafer has been horrible. The first two games Wafer didn't put a shot up, recorded horrible +/- ratings, and on top of that he also picked up two techincal fouls at the end of both games.

To put it in simple terms: Wafer should consider himself lucky if he makes the team over training camp invitees Stephen Lasme and Von Wafer.

For Von to go out and say that he is trying to play quality minutes on this team is foolish, and as Tommy Heinsohn would say, "STUPID!!" Wafer has done absoloutely nothing to prove he deserves a spot on the Celtics, nevermind the possibility of playing meaningful minutes.

Remember when Von was quoted shortly after his signing saying he'd be the team's waterboy if need be? I sure do. Boy how things change.

“I’m just going to go in and try to learn all of the defensive schemes because I know that’s going to be big, depending on how much they utilize me. They haven’t told me a specific role but I’m willing to do anything they ask of me. If they need a cheerleader, that’s fine. If they need a water guy, I’ll be getting everybody water. If they need me knocking down open shots, I’ll do that too,” he said.

I'm sorry, folks, but I just don't like this guy. If he does get lucky enough to make the team, he will be this year's Rasheed Wallace for me. He's proved nothing to me on the court and he is already back-firing on all the right things he said after the signing.

Make up your mind Von Wafer. If your willing to step up your game to get the chance to play on the end of the bench on an NBA team competing for an NBA title, the more power to you. If you think your going to play 20-30 minutes a game, I'd advise you to head back to Greece and sign on with the Olympiakos.

By the way, Stone Cold is still the greatest ever.
