Circuit information

The Hungarian Grand Prix is held in Mogyoród just outside the capital of Hungary, Budapest. The first formula one grand prix was held in 1986 on this track after a record fast construction started hardly a year before. The Hungarian Grand Prix was the first ever formula one race behind the Iron Curtain which was originally planned to be held in the Soviet Union. The track is in a natural valley therefore the circuit claims that 80% of the circuit can be seen from any point around the track.

The 4.4 km long circuit has 16 turns and has been slightly changed over the past 20 years in order to improve overtaking opportunities. The circuit was originally planned to be held in the streets of Budapest probably that is the reason why it has a twisty layout similar to that of Monaco's. According to statements and interviews, drivers have different opinions on the track. While many like Ayrton Senna, Nigel Mansell, Michael Schumacher and Fernando Alonso claimed to love it, many others consider the track, and the Hungarian Grand Prix too slow, hot and demanding.
