Several University of Northwestern Ohio (UNOH) students – including a couple of drivers – will have a big role when the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards visits Daytona International Speedway next month. Earlier this month, UNOH extended its contract as the official and exclusive educational university of the ARCA Racing Series for the 12th year.
UNOH and ARCA have a unique relationship that ultimately gives students from UNOH a chance to participate in real-world situations as crew members on an ARCA Racing Series team. More than 30 students annually participate in the university’s ARCA Race Club, a student-internship program that puts students on ARCA teams for a full 20-race season.
In Daytona, UNOH, in a partnership with Tony Marks Racing, will field two teams, including the No. 12 UNOH/ZLOOP Chevrolet driven by Jared Marks and the No. 33 UNOH/ZLOOP Chevrolet driven by Kody Weisner. Both Marks and Weisner are students at UNOH. Several team members will also be UNOH students.
“All of the students have been doing a great job in the garage,” Marks said. “We work together really well and it’s such a positive to be working with a group of your peers. These guys get it done and we’re giving the veterans a run for their money.”
Both Weisner and Marks tested at Daytona with the ARCA Racing Series.
“The support I’ve received from UNOH throughout my time there as a student, driving the modified cars at Limaland, and now here at the ARCA race in Daytona has been amazing,” Weisner said. “I am grateful for all the experience they have in the business and the doors they’ve opened for me. Now it is up to me to perform and hopefully we can do something like this again in the future.”
The University of Northwestern Ohio is an entrepreneurial, not-for-profit institution of higher learning, preparing students for careers and productive citizenship that encompass the business, professional, corporate, and technological communities by providing quality education and training in response to the needs and aspirations of its constituents.
