Amherst MA-- The Massachusetts hockey team saw its starting goalie and captain Paul Dainton get chased out of play vs. Army on Friday night as the Minutemen lost 5-2.
The future heros of America’s military forces got out to a 3-0 lead in the second period and never looked back as Army goalie Ryan Leets stopped 29 of 31 Minutemen shots.
“To be honest we just got out battled for three straight periods, and it is pretty uncharacteristic of a team like us to get out battled that bad,” said UMass forward T.J. Syner.
Syner finished the game peppering Leets six different times, but could not find the back of the goal vs. the Army goaltender.
“Its just not going our way right now,” said Syner
Michael Pereira and Marc Concannon got the loan two goals for the Mass-attack. Pereira beat Leets in the second, and Concannon scored in the third period. Pereria finished the game with a goal and a +2.
“The whole week was about execution, and as a program we thought we had the competive side of it in place,” said UMass head coach Don Cahoon. “Fooled were we, and we clearly did not come here prepared enough to play.”
UMass remains winless with the loss dropping to 0-5-2 on the season. In some brighter news they did beat the Swedish U-20 team and an exhibition game on Saturday 5-1.
