UFC 113 Preview and Predictions
This will mark the return of UFC to Montreal and its sure to be an action packed fight with the main event featuring the anticipated rematch of Machida in Shogun which finished in controversial the first go round. Also taking place on this card will be a number one contenders match with TUF alumni Koscheck taking on the hard hitting Brit, Paul Daley. Patrick Cote will make his return to the octagon also taking on the The Talent, Alan Belchar in a fight sure to spark some fireworks. Also on the card will be another Canadian Sam Stout as he'll goto battle with Jeremy Stephenson in a fight that will be nothing short of entertaining as both fighters known to put on a show. Closing out the main card will be the man from the streets Kimbo Slice taking on another TUF member Matt Mitrione in a fight that anyone would be shocked to see hit the mat. Heres a quick break down and my predictions for UFC 113.
Title fight : Shogun Rua vs Lyoto Machida (205 pounds) If the first fight was an implication to this one will go, we're in for another amazing tactical battle of true martial artists. I saw nothing wrong with the first decision, I too had Machida the victory having won the first 3 rounds. It was a very close fight and had it took place during the Pride days Shogun would finally be wearing the gold he has been hunting down for years. I don't think either fighter wants to take the chance of having the fight goto the judges so expect them to bring it this time around, Shogun more then Machida. I also expect to see Shogun try to work for more take downs, something he didn't do too much of in their first fight. I want to go with my heart in this one and say Shogun, but if that was the best Shogun he has to offer, Machida knows exactly what to expect and will pick him apart. For that reason I'm leaving with The Dragon to retain his title.
Prediction: Machida via UD
co-main event: Josh Koscheck vs Paul Daley (170 pounds) Not sure what trash talking is? Well if you've heard Paul Daley talk about this fight, you're now well aware of it. Paul Daley is the king of the trash talk but from what we've seen in the UFC he's well deserving of it. Daley has stopped his first to opponents in the first round with relative ease. For those who have seen him fight outside of the UFC know of his big weakness and know that's Koscheck's specialty. Prior to joining the UFC we saw Daley take on the dangerous Jake Shields where he fell victim to a RNC. Koscheck wants a rematch with GSP and he's done everything in his power to get it, as this will be Josh's 17th time entering the octagon. Though he has shown up on the wrong end a couple times, he's fought the whose who of the welterweight division holding his own each time entering the octagon. I don't see Koscheck waisting any time standing with a man who can easily knock his head off (something Josh has been a victim of, Paulo Thiago) and taking Daley down with ease all fight. If he doesn't manage to finish him there's no doubt he picks up the UD. It may not be pretty but Kos wants his title shot. Josh takes this one reverting back to Pat Miletich's dominate early days. A win is a win, don't listen to the haters. Daley will be gassed in the 3rd and Kos picks up his first arm bar win.
Prediction: Koscheck via submission
Heavyweight tilt. Kimbo vs Mitrione (206-265 pounds) This is a JOKE of a fight. I'm in utter shock to see the UFC making this a main event fight as either fighter is deserving of even being the UFC yet alone a main event card. Both fighters lack a gas tank so if this one doesn't end early don't expect too much. Both his relatively hard, I'd give the advantage in chins to Mitrione and slight advantage to Kimbo on the ground, with him working hit butt off on it lately. If Kimbo can avoid the early KO he should be able to out work Mitrione for the decision.
Prediction: Kimbo via UD
Fight of the night! Sam Stout vs Jeremy Stephenson (155 pounds) This fight has fire works written all over it! Both fighters are known for FOTN honors so why would either fighter expect anything else? Stout loves to fight in front of the home crowd hailing from London, Ontario so I'm going with him. Also Stout has steadily been improving and is riding the momentom from a huge win over Joe Louzon. Jeremy on his other hand is 2-5 in his last 7 but still shouldn't be taken lightly, as we've seen his past fights he HITS hard, with a brillant upper cut knock out over Dos anjos. This will be a back and forth fight, where Stout should take over in the end as he's shown the in past he picks it up at the end of fights where Jeremy seems flat.
Prediction: Stout via TKO 3rd round.
Return of Cote: Patrick Cote vs Alan Belchar If there was a fight that was going to steal FOTN honors this is it. Cote will have the home town crowd behind him so he should feel good coming in, but this will mark his return coming off knee surgery and this isn't exactly the fighter you want to have welcoming you back. Belchar has a chip on his shoulder, feeling the UFC doesn't give him enough credit so he feels like he has something to prove in this one. Cote should come out swinging hard looking to end this one early and if he doesn't end it he's in for a long night. How many leg kicks before Cote become cautious about his knee is he isn't already before even coming into the fight? In a fight that won't hit the ground, Cote should get him early but sadly I don't think he'll finish the tough Belchar in his come back losing confidence as the fight grows as Belchar will gain it throughout the bought virtually taking the UD
Prediction: IT KILLS ME to say this as I'm a HUGE Cote fan but Belchar vis UD
