Last night we told you about Conte Cuttino who was released because of twitter. The Question it raised was: Was it right for them to do this? In my mind, it was in some ways.
When you are in training camp, you start on thin ice. They don't care who you are, you are competing for a spot, and everything you do is watched. It doesn't bode well for you when you tweet pictures of your injured teammates to the whole world, that were not meant to be seen. He was a rookie that made a rookie mistake.
I can see why the Ti-cats wouldn't want players releasing things that were not ment to be released yet, but still in some sense they overreacted a little. Yes, he's leaking some info, but it's not like it's about a trade or firing. He tweeted pictures of teamate's injuries. The media would have found out quickly anyways, that's thieir job.
Another thing is that the injuries did not belong to big name players. One of the pictures he tweeted was of a player that has already been released anyways. It's not like a huge story was created when everybody found out Avon Coborne or Kevin Glen was going to miss some regular season games. It was a no name player who is nolonger with the team for other reasons rather than this story.
He deserved his fate, though his CFL career will be far from over because of this. It just may take a pause for a year, which might be good time for Cuttino to mature.
I believe twitter can be a great tool for athletes to stay in touch with other players and their fans, but also believe they should use it responsibly. My advice is think twice, tweet once.
