Tribute To The Eliminated NXTer: Lucky Cannon

I always knew I had something in common with Rodney Dangerfield.........

Unfortunately, I had hoped it was comedic brilliance, but I'll settle for the sentiment "it's not easy bein' me".  It certainly isn't when you are right a lot more often than you are wrong.  Then again, that fact makes me perfect for making predictions in a wrestling column, and yet again, I proved that with Tuesday's NXT elimination.  Before i go and toot my horn too much, this came as no shock to anyone, as Cannon was the only competitor left without something tangible going for him.

When looking at the final 6, two are second generation superstars (Husky Harris and Michael McGillicutty), one is the prototypical superstar (Alex Riley), one is a world renowned independent worker (Kaval), and one has delighted fans with his ridiculous antics (Percy Watson).  This left the 6th, Lucky Cannon, as the odd man out, and out he was on Tuesday night.  While I profile Cannon to be on the same wavelength as McGillicutty, WWE is banking on the son of Mr. Perfect to go further on legacy alone.  Despite the fact that both men are incredibly bland at this point, name value (even if not using the name) goes a long way in this business, and it's the difference between being in 2nd place or 6th.

What really shocked me about the elimination was that it came down to Riley and Cannon.  In my opinion, Riley is head and shoulders above everyone else, so to see him in 5th was just laughable.  However, when it was down to those 2, it was obvious Cannon would be gone.  In his last moments on NXT, he quoted some movies, and in a huge mark out moment for me, called Percy Watson a wannabe Charlie Murphy.  For those playing the home game, I've made that reference more than once, though in my version, he's an inbred Murphy.  For once, Cannon did something awesome, but as was the case with other fallen NXTers, it was too little, too late.

To Lucky Cannon, I say that it's unfortunate you weren't born to a wrestling legend.  If you were, you'd still be around like the equally bland Michael McGillicutty.  However, Lucky wasn't so lucky in this case, so we bid adieu to Mr. Cannon and hope that he returns one day.............this time with a personality and the ability to take a finisher.
