The draft is almost upon us and the picture became a little more fuzzy with recent trade, signing and release activity. With that said we here at Touchdown Dance looked at was has been happenening and made some adjustments to our last mock. Here is what we feel will happen in the first round just 17 short days from now.
- St. Louis Rams- (QB) Sam Bradford/Oklahoma- despite thinking this would be the biggest mistake in Rams history all signs point to this pick. The release of Marc Bulger just about guarentees this selection unless the Rams get a to good to be true offer to trade out of this spot. (Previous: Ndamukong Suh)
- Detroit Lions- (T) Russell Okung/Oklahoma St- if you are not going to protect your most valuable asset (Matthew Stafford) you may as well get out of the football business. (Previous: unchanged)
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers- (DT) Ndamukong Suh/Nebraska- the Bucs fall into the best spot in the draft and land not only the best player in the Big 12, but the best player in the entire draft. (Previous: Gerald McCoy)
- Washington Redskins- (OT) Bryan Bulaga/Iowa- now that the Redskins have the quarterback question answered for at least the next couple years they can move on to protecting the veteran they invested in. (Previous: Sam Bradford)
- Kansas City Chiefs- (S) Eric Berry/Tennessee- the Chiefs would love to grab McCoy here, but safety help is needed much more so they stick with their original plan and take Berry. (Previous: unchanged)
- Seattle Seahawks- (DT) Gerald McCoy/Texas- the Seahawks need more help from the outside, but with the draft falling this way they would be hard pressed to pass up on McCoy's great value here. (Previous: Jason Pierre-Paul)
- Cleveland Browns- (DE/OLB) Jason Pierre-Paul/South Florida- Mike Holgrem has been making wholesale changes in Cleveland this offseason, but realizes he must pressure the quarterback to stay in games as his offense will still be anemic. (Previous: Joe Haden)
- Oakland Raiders- (OT) Bruce Campbell/Maryland- we all know that Al Davis can't resist the workout warriors and he'll go ahead with another. Even if Campbell does pan out it doesn't really matter until the get rid of JeMokecus Russell. (Previous: unchanged)
- Buffalo Bills- (QB) Jimmy Claussen/Notre Dame- has the savior finally been found? Recent offseason activity may make this possible for the Bills who have been searching for a long term answer since Jim Kelly retired. (Previous: Anthony Davis)
- Jacksonville Jaguars- (DE) Derrick Morgan/Georgia Tech- they did sign Aaron Kampmann this offseason, but it is yet to been seen how he will come back from his knee injury. If healthy Morgan and Kampmann will be a good start for one of the league worst pass rushes. (Previous: unchanged)
- Denver Broncos- (DT) Dan Williams/Tennessee- it is quite possible that Jamal Williams has nothing left so this pick will ensure that the Broncos defense doesn't fall off as bad as they did late last season. (Previous: Dez Bryant)
- Miami Dolphins- (CB) Joe Haden/Florida- Parcells adds even more youth to a very talented secondary. This move allows last year's draft pick Sean Smith to move back to a more natural fit at free safety. (Previous: Taylor Mays)
- San Francisco 49ers- (OT) Trent Williams/Oklahoma- a big road grader is just what Mike Singletary ordered to play his game of ball control football. (Previous: Bryan Bulaga)
- Seattle Seahawks- (WR) Dez Bryant/Oklahoma St- after having a defensive gift land in their lap at #6 Pete Carroll looks for help for whomever may be his starting quarterback this coming season. Though they would love to have Williams fall to them here. (Previous: Trent Williams)
- NY Giants- (ILB) Rolando McClain/Alabama- Tom Coughlin and crew can't resist a smart and talented football player to quarterback their defense, making McClain their man in the middle for many years to come. (Previous: unchanged)
- Tennessee Titans- (DE) Everson Griffen/Florida State- a good showing at the combine has the Titans drooling over something they are seriously missing. Griffen may not launch into NFL stardom, but Jeff Fisher will get the most out of this young pass rusher. (Previous: Brandon Graham)
- San Francisco 49ers- (CB) Kyle Wilson/Boise State- after hitting their weakest team spot with the thirteenth pick the Niners shore up their secondary with some youth who can also return kicks. (Previous: Jared Odrick)
- Pittsburgh Steelers- (ILB) Sean Weathersppon/Missouri- they brought back Larry Foote, but he won't play forever and this team always finds creative ways to get young talented players on the field with their quality veterans. (Previous: Earl Thomas)
- Atlanta Falcons- (DE) Brandon Graham/Michigan- John Abraham is in need of some serious help in order to free him up to rush the passer. With Graham opposite him he will have a hard working smart player to take some pressure off. (Previous: Dan Williams)
- Houston Texans- (RB) CJ Spiller/Clemson- some think Spiller will be long gone, but if recent history has told us anything is that running backs can be found in multiple places these days. This will have the Texans drooling once their time hits and selecting Spiller to pair with Steve Slaton who will bounce back with less responsibilty placed upon him. (Previous: unchanged)
- Cincinnati Bengals- (S) Earl Thomas/Texas- already holding a pair of the best corners in the league the Bengals will further improve their secondary and select this Texas safety who will surplant their current UT safety Roy Williams as the starter. (Previous: Mike Iupati)
- New England Patriots- (TE) Jermaine Gresham/Oklahoma- Belichick knows that Tom Bundchen will need someone to throw to other than Randy Moss. Wes Welker will never be the same player after last year's injuries and Gresham will give Mr. Brady a wonderful target over the middle. (Previous: unchanged)
- Green Bay Packers- (OT) Charles Brown/USC- the Packers re-signed both of their leaky tackles this offseason, but much improvement is needed to ensure that Aaron Rodgers plays half as long in a Packers uniform than Brett Favre did. (Previous: unchanged)
- Philadelphia Eagles- (S) Taylor Mays/USC- Andy Reid tries to calm the Philly fans about trading away D. McNabb in drafting a player who could possbly fill the shoes of Brian Dawkins. (Previous: Everson Griffen)
- Baltimore Ravens- (DT) Jared Odrick/Penn State- the Ravens suffered depth loss along the defensive line this offseason and Odrick will fit in perfectly on the outside of their 3-4 scheme. (Previous: Kyle Wilson)
- Arizona Cardinals- (OT) Anthony Davis/Rutgers- has taken a nose dive since the combine, but the Cardinals are in need of quality talent along the o-line and Davis will be a very good value here. (Previous: Sean Weatherspoon)
- Dallas Cowboys- (C/G) Maurkice Pouncey/Florida- the Cowboys finally given up on Flozell Adams so they realize major overhaul will be necessary very soon and it will start with addition of Pouncey who is versatile enough to line-up in multiple spots. (Previous: unchanged)
- San Diego Chargers- (RB) Ryan Matthews/Fresno State- Darren Sproles is good in small doses, but the Chargers offense needs an every down back which Matthews will become. He fits the offense well with good running and pass catching abilities. (Previous: unchanged)
- NY Jets- (OLB) Sergo Kindle/Texas- the Vernon Gholston experiment is just about over and Rex Ryan loves attacking the passer and that is exactly what Kindle will be asked to do. (Previous: unchanged)
- Minnesota Vikings- (G) Mike Iupati/Idaho- the Vikings line is good, but the addition of Iupati could make it great, especially in opening running lanes for Purple Jesus. (Previous: Brian Price)
- Indianapolis Colts- (OT) Rodger Saffold/Indiana- the Colts will stay within the state and continue to build a line that can keep the league's most valuable asset of his ass-ets. (Previous: unchanged)
- New Orleans Saints- (DT) Brian Price/UCLA- the Saints improve the interior of their d-line even more as Price falls to them. Which will also give them some lee-way in dealing with Anthony Hargrove who just signed his one year restricted free agent deal. (Previous: Jerry Hughes)
