So very busy I am. So much NFL news so little time to get to it. I've still been ultra busy being Mr. Mom, playing nurse to my wife (tonsilectomy) and constantly cleaning up after our dog who has the runs.
Boo Hoo for me right. Well the NFL doesn't think as the news continues to pour out of the league eventhough the players are in performance hibernation. Lets see what we have had going on in the past few days.
- Buffalo Bills
You got to know when to fold them, know when to walk away and know when to run an old, fat, chicken slinging, country singer told me one day when I was young. Yes, I was obsessed with that song when I was five or so. For some unknown reason and if you ever tell anybody I won't admit it.
It seems the above is also true for Buffalo Bills (RT) Brad Butler who announced his retirement from football at the ripe age of 26. Butler was a 5th round selection in 2006 and started 31 of 33 career games. This past season was cut short by a major knee injury in Week 2 versus the Buccaneers. Butler who graduated from Virginia with a government studies degree is looking to pursue opportunities in education and the community.
This does not bode well for the already line challenged Bills who gave up 46 sacks this past season. The offense really never had a chance from the beginning and this announcement should ensure the Bills will be looking offensive line very early in the upcoming draft.
- Oakland Raiders
That didn't take long. Shortly after being hired as the secondary coach for the Oaland Raiders, Clancy Pendergrast left the team to become the defensive coordinator of the Cal Bears.
While the move is an upgrade from the position he was hired to do by Al Davis, one has to think that Pendergrast only needed a few days in the office to realize how half-witted this organization really is. Good move Clancy, this organization is as stable as a uranium plant in Iran. Getting out before Al Davis wakes up to change his Depends again is the best move you could have ever made.
- NFL Draft
We reported earlier this week that quarterback prospect Jimmy Claussen would not participate in drills in next week's NFL combine due to toe surgery that he has not completely recovered from. Now, his main competition to be the 1st quarterback drafted also announced he will not be participating in drills either.
Sam Bradford who had shoulder surgery after an injury plagued 2009 season at Oklahoma is still revovering and is expected to show the NFL masses his wears at a March 25th Pro Day in Norman. Bradford will be at the combine for brain and physical measurements along with meeting with NFL club personnel.
Maybe, just maybe these two set-backs will create a quarterback free 1st round, because in my eyes there really isn't a guy worthy of a 1-32 selection.
- NFL Police Blotter
Why do people that make so much freakin money refuse to call a cab, get a limo or even pay somebody to be a designated driver? Some of tghese guys pay their friends to stick around and do nothing so why not the later? This week it's the cornerbacks turn to be irresponsible.
Two NFL players were charged with DUI this week. First Dolphins (CB) Will Allen was picked up and charged in South Beach with DUI and then it was Redskins (CB) Byron Westbrook's turn for the same while driving in Maryland.
It doesn't matter whether you're the highest paid player in the league or the last guy on the practice squad roster there is no excuse for this. Even the later guys make more money than most and they should use it a little more wisely. Especially when it comes to having libations and then taking your own and others lives into their own hands by getting behind a wheel. I see how much the masses have learned from the Donte Stallworth situation.
- General Notes
In no way will I ever be confused with Hemingway or even a decent blogger you may be able to name, but I must beg for all that is good and holy that all of you inbred, mouth-breathing, meat-headed, sports morons to please stop writing on messeage boards, comment sections and the internet all together with your warped and or completely ridiculous views on sports.
Anytime and anywhere I read sports articles on the internet I find myself pulling my hair out, because of your ludicrous commentary following the pieces I have just read. While my thoughts and opinions may not always mesh with the sum, I at least think about how to carefully constuct my comments so I do my best not to personally offend others or inundate the piece that I am commenting on.
The constant message board tough guy act can be found around every corner on every web page, Where the thoughful hard work of the authors is often times misplaced by crimes of idiotic commentary by the sports retarded. Just because you can read does not mean you have to let your opinions or feelings known to the world. For my sake, along with the rest of the world, keep your thoughts to yourself and don't let your fingers do the walking.
