Once again the daily chores of life have me reporting a couple of news worthy notes from the NFL yesterday. Where we had an Eagle have his wings clipped and another large man in the middle gets the Micky D's treatment.
- Philadelphia Eagles
It was a mild surprise, but the Eagles released their all-time leader in yards from scrimmage in (RB) Brian Westbrook. Though Westbrook has said he wants to continue to play even after an injury plagued 2009 season where he suffered two concussions very close together.
The move for the organization is more about money as a roster bonus for Westbrook was quickly approaching and the performance of the young LeSean McCoy made this cut a much easier decision. This makes two fan favorites cut in two consecutives offseasons, Brian Dawkins in 09 and Westbrook this year. Maybe they just have something against guys named Brian.
- San Francisco 49ers
Another very large and talented man in the middle received the franchise tag this week. This time it was handed to Nines (NT) Aubrayo Franklin who stands to make $7.003 million next season if a long-term deal is not struck.
- Denver Broncos
I wonder if either of these two guys gave coach Josh McDaniels the stink eye and that's why they are now out of work. Both (C) Casey Wiegmann and (RB) Lamont Jordan were handed their walking papers. The move was hopefully more about their age than the overly overreactive young head coach Josh McDaniels who has no tolleration for anything that wasn't his idea or run his way.
