A couple of news items. A player gets released from Cleveland after he is reinstated by Sheriff Goodell. Then a hiring that legitimizes that the status quo is more than fine for this franchise.
- Cleveland Browns
The Browns released recently reinstated (WR) Donte Stallworth. He is now an unrestricted free agent and sure to get a job despite killing a man less than a year ago with his car while driving drunk.
Only in America can a man kill another man and then have the opportunity to make millions of more dollars playing a game. Sure he paid the family a large undiclosed amount of money for their pain and suffering, but should he really have the opportunity to make millions of more dollars and quite possibly act just as irresponsibly?
If a common man gets a DUI it is frowned upon almost to the point of job loss and for sure community scrutiny. I hope that NFL franchises look deep within Stallworth and themselves before offering him another chance at ridiculous amounts of money that risks a return to under punished personal irresponsibilty.
- Chicago Bears
Despite lying to me and telling me that the status quo was no longer acceptable. The Bears did just that in promoting defensive line coach Rod Marinelli to defensive coordinator on Friday. The press release was timed so that the Bears fans may overlook or miss the news all together. That way, the completely mediocre franchise could dodge further criticism and mockery from its large fanbase.
It seems that Lovie Smith has defeated GM Jerry Angelo in the power struggle for Halas Hall with both of his original coaching fill-ins being hired recently. Mike Martz was hired as the offensive coordinator and now good friend Rod Marinelli gets promoted to keep the status quo exactly the same and possibly even greater than it was at the end of the season.
Maybe Ted Phillips wasn't lying as the status quo just may change as the Bears go from bubble to mediocrity to drowing in the lagoon of the NFL bad.
