Despite another encouraging performance from Rafael Van der Vaart, Spurs fell to a 1-0 defeat at West Ham to give their London rivals a first league win of the season and help them move away from the relegation zone.
Redknapp showed too much respect to the Hammers perhaps by fielding a 4-5-1 formation, but was still only 4 players short of a full-strength team - and had numerous expensive attacking options on his substitute bench.
Nevertheless, a 30th minute Frederic Piquionne strike from close range proved to be enough to separate the two sides and condemn Spurs to their disappointing defeat of the week. This after being dismantled 4-1 at home by arch-rivals Arsenal.
Today, the team created chances but looked vulnerable at the back and had Carlo Cudicini to thank for several excellent saves. Despite showing much quality in midfield, Peter Crouch had an off day and Redknapp was guilty of letting the game get away from him as he only made his first substitution as the match entered its final quarter.
Giovani Dos Santos, Robbie Keane and Roman Pavlyuchenko did add impetus and impulse to the team, but it was all too little too late. A particularly depressing result given that Chelsea and Arsenal also suffered surprise defeats.
The club's attention will now focus on its first ever home Champions League match on Wednesday, an encounter against Dutch side FC Twente which they must win. For this, they will welcome back William Gallas and Ledley King in defence and possibly also Heurelho Gomes in goal.
