Time To Be The Boss

Woody the boss

I truly didn’t think that it would come to this. With only a week left before the Jets open the regular season at home against the Ravens on Monday night, Revis is still nowhere to be seen. At the start of the holdout I declared how I wasn’t worried at all about the holdout, that eventually Revis will be signed before the first snap of the regular season and that all would be great. I am not giving up hope and I’m not quite ready to admit that I was wrong yet. However something needs to happen and I know exactly what it is.

In an interview with ESPNNY.com writer Rich Cimini this past May, Woody was adamant about his respect for George Steinbrenner. Woody wants to become “The Boss” of football? Well then it’s time to start acting like it. What do you think George would have done if say Derek Jeter (in his prime) thought that he had outplayed his contract?  He would have given him his damn money. Sure he may have tried every bargaining ploy in the book to get him to sign for a little bit cheaper. However in the end it wouldn’t have mattered to The Boss, he would have done what needed to be done and given Jeter every cent necessary to get him on to the field and ready to play for the first game. He wouldn’t have waited for the first game or few games to be played, he would have had him signed sealed and delivered long before the first game. You want to know why, because The Boss was all about winning championships and would do whatever it took to put a championship caliber team on the field every year.

Well Woody back at the start of holdout I told everyone not to worry that no matter what when push came to shove, that you would get Revis his money. The reason why? Because I had read this interview of yours and I took it to heart. I have seen all the great moves and all the great things that you have done to turn this troubled organization into the team and powerhouse that it has the chance to become. Do I think that the Jets still have a chance of winning the Super Bowl without Revis this year? Absolutely! Do I think they come close to being as good a team without Revis as they could be with him? Absolutely not! Would The Boss have allowed the Yankees to put an inferior team on the field without Jeter, when with him they had the chance to be the best defensive team ever? ABSOLUTELY NOT!

So Woody you said you patterned yourself after Steinbrenner. However when asked if you thought you could be compared to him you gave the exact right answer. You said, “No, he has a lot more rings. When I get some rings, maybe.” Well I don’t know about you Woody, but I do know that I and the rest of Jets Nation are ready to start making those comparisons. In order for this to happen there is one thing that needs to happen. You NEED to Sign Revis! I know that the amount of money he is asking for is absurd and I know that Al Davis royally screwed you on this one. However, the matter of the fact is that Revis is the best corner in football and therefore he deserves to be paid like it. There is still plenty of time, because like Rex Ryan said back at the start of training camp, Revis could sign next Sunday and start the next night against the Ravens and he would still shutdown Anquan Boldin.

So since Revis is no longer talking to the media about his contract situation I will do a little Role playing and speak for him. As former Jets Great Keyshawn Johnson would have said, “Woody JUST GIVE ME MY DAMN MONEY!” After you do this and the Jets win the Super Bowl, then we can truly start to call you THE BOSS of the NFL.
