With only a few days to go until the season opener of the regular season the Hamilton Tiger Cats have much to anticipate and are ready to roar their way into it. If the pre season tells you anything about the team, it says that they have the ability to make some noise in the CFL this year.
The offence showed that they have the ability to be an up-tempo and explosive group last week against the Alouettes, when they chewed them up with a convincing 57-20 win. We also, saw this late in the fourth quarter when, Terry Grant broke up the middle to score on a 55yd carry to the end-zone. This also most definitely was a factor in why he is now the backup running back.
“Terry was just too much of an explosive player to pass on and it was important to keep him,” said coach Bellefeuille.
The Ti-Cats decided to only take one back up to Avon, considering they have Marcus Thigpen who can also run the ball if need be. Thigpen showed his ability on special teams when he returned a kick for 100 yds and a TD to open the scoring that day for the black and gold.
What is still up in the air is the Ti-Cats defence, especially the secondary. This group has yet to show that they can keep the opposing offence's from making the big plays. But the bright note here is the wall of linebackers they have that can surly stop the run. Let’s not forget the pass rush and containment of Stevie Baggs and Justin Hickman that also make a difference on the ends.
Well, only time will tell for this bunch but the time has come on Friday when they kickoff the season against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. They need to contain the run and not let the legs of QB Pierce get him outside the pocket.
