Everyone else has put their opinion on it, and I know I have a fairly strong one, so I might as well take a shot at it...
The first time I saw what the league was going to do about Technical Fouls, I said, "No way". There was no way players in an intense environment would be able to not even raise their hands, or debate with an official about a call. Realistically, some of the stuff they have called T's on in the preseason have been things that occur regularly at the College, heck even the High School level.
Thats why when I step back and take a look at it from a distance, I'm not buying it. I realize the players union is going through this legal deal to get this figured out, but I don't think it was ever the NBA's plan to REALLY keep this up throughout the year.
All Stern and his buddies are trying to do is scare the players and coaches in the preaseason in hopes that it will at least minimally limit the amount of complaining that occurs during the regular season. No human in their right mind would really think this is what the fans want... to watch players shoot, and shoot, and shoot free throw shots.
With the way things are right now, Garnett would be serving his 1 game suspension after picking up 16 techs by the end of December. Its a scare tactic... A pointless scare tactic at that. All it is doing is messing up a PREseason that has already been ruined once before (by D-League officials).
The reality is: Two months into the season we won't remember this or even care about it. Games will be officiated the same way they were last year (horribly), but we won't be seeing a technical foul for a couple of players exchanging butt taps..
