The Supplemental Draft: Were There Some Game Changers?

Wwe draft

When Raw concluded last night, it was an incomplete feeling.  Not in the sense that there was a major cliffhanger of a story, but of a draft.

Yes, WWE announced a supplemental draft for noon today and I promptly set a reminder on my phone for 11:45.  Despite a busy day, I was planted in front of my computer, following the draft with thousands of others and tweeting live with all of you guys.  I hope you got a chance to follow my comments @FanVsFanMotSS.  It was a good time for those I tweeted back and forth with.

As expected, there were plenty of picks that will ultimately amount to nothing, perhaps even being the last time we hear some of the names before they are future endeavored, but here are a few that I think may benefit from being drafted.

Daniel Bryan to SMACKDOWN - This one I predicted and it makes all the sense in the world.  He's a wrestler (you know, that evil word WWE doesn't want you to use!) and he's going to the more wrestling-heavy show on Fridays.  It's a perfect fit and I'd love to see a feud with Barrett for the Intercontinental Title.

Jack Swagger to RAW - Here's how I see it playing out: Swagger starts off as a heel and given what happened later in the supplemental draft, he could win the US or IC title and bring it to Raw.  He dominates for a little bit with Cole managing him only for Cole to start abusing him more, causing him to lose focus and lose the title.  Then, he turns face on Cole and Cole starts managing a new heel who takes the title.  THAT is how you build a sweet midcard feud and it would do something that WWE has failed to do in years........make Swagger interesting.

Chris Masters to RAW - It might be hard to believe, but this guy is still under 30 years of age.  He's young and talented and Raw's midcard face scene is wide open.  He could become a challenger for their midcard belt, whichever it might be.  Maybe I'm in the minority, but I like the guy and I think he'd make a fine midcard champ.

Sheamus to SMACKDOWN - This was the last pick but I need to talk about it now since all other conversations seem to be revolving around it.  Sheamus going to Smackdown is very good for him.  They have NO main event heels and he could very easily be the top guy in that regard.  However, he needs to lose the US title for that to happen.  I don't know how it will, but it needs to happen soon so he can be dominant on the blue brand.  It's a great move for him as long as he stays away from Orton.  We've seen that a million times and it's never been good.

Drew McIntyre to RAW - Potential is the key word here.  This kid has a lot of potential, but when will we see it? Besides Swagger, he's a great replacement for midcard heel champ on Raw and I think we may see that happen.  You can forget about the main event this year given the stockpile of heels on Raw but a midcard title reign? That seems like it could happen.

Kofi Kingston to RAW - Another move I saw coming as he's done all he can do on Smackdown.  Raw should give him a fresh start.  He can really grow as a face there as Rey is winding down and only Cena is truly solidified in the main event.  This is probably his chance and he needs to take it.  Put him in some upper midcard feuds and see if he draws.

Tyson Kidd to SMACKDOWN - Could mean nothing just as Tatsu to Smackdown could mean nothing but both guys can wrestle and were sent to the wrestling show.  I'm just sayin'.

William Regal to SMACKDOWN - Overthrow of Teddy Long? That's probably the best they could do with Regal at this point.  It could be fun to see a new GM on Smackdown and he's held the job before.  I'd love to see it as it would be a fun angle that could involve a bunch of different guys.  Plus, it's more likely than seeing Regal getting any sort of real wrestling push while in his 40s.

Curt Hawkins to RAW - Seemingly inconsequential, but the potential to reunite "The Party Starter" with "Long Island Iced Z" makes this one of my favorite picks.  These two could be a modern incarnation of Edge and Christian  with a Long Island twist.  I say put them together and let the hilarity ensue.  DO IT WWE!!

Obviously, the main speculation right now is what will happen with the midcard titles.  As soon as I know, I'll let all of you know.  I'm sure one of the belts will end up back on Raw, but as of now, Raw's midcard is naked.

Also to note is that Beth Phoenix is back on Raw.  She will undoubtedly feud with the debuting Kharma for the affection of her former boyfriend Santino.  For those that didn't follow the draft, the Italian superstar is now single due to Tamina being shipped to Smackdown.  I'm sure this new love triangle will be all the buzz on TMZ!

Obviously this was the midcard version of the draft but there are always a few guys that really benefit from a change of scenery.  Last year, Cody Rhodes was a guy that truly took the ball and ran with it.  Who will it be this year?  My early pick is Jack Swagger on RAW and Daniel Bryan on SMACKDOWN.  What do you think?
