Hey folks, whats up it's been a little bit, school, my show and blogging else wear pulled me away from fanvsfan.com but I'm back to do a playoff blog on my hometown Edmonton Oil Kings in the Western Hockey League. The Oil Kings, are one of the best teams in Major Junior Hockey and are currently playing in their first round Eastern Conference Semis match up against the eight seeded Kootenay Ice, the defending Memorial Cup Champs. The Oil Kings and Ice played a defensive first frame until forward Mitch Moroz opened the scoring with just 6 seconds left on the clock to give the #4 ranked Major Junior team in Canada the 1-0 lead going into the intermission.

In the 2nd, Kootenay put up the pressure on Oil Kings goalie Laurent Bronsoit but he was able to stay sharp in the net and kept Kootenay off of the board as they turned the heat up on him outshooting the Oil Kings 14-3 in the period. Both teams began to enter the penalty box with frequency during the frame but the Oil Kings powerplay was unable to strike and nor was Kootenay's.

The 3rd saw Edmonton pull away as Michael.St Croix (New York Rangers draft pick in 2010) and 16 year old Curtis Lazar were able to seal the deal for Edmonton as they took game 1, 3-0 as Brossoit got the 29 save shutout.

The teams meet up again for game 2 on Sunday at Rexall Place and the Ice will look to show Edmonton again that they may be the #8 seed but they will not be a walkover.
