The NHL's system of justice might be the most illogical and stupid system of discipline in any sport. There really is no logic to whether or not a suspension is handed out and this has got to stop. How is it that someone like Zdeno Chara can get off without a suspension but Anton Volchenkov gets suspended for a far less harmful hit.

Now, I'm not going to criticize past issues, but rather, I'm here to propose a solution for the future.

Take a page out of MLB's book, first. Define every suspension in the rulebook, none of this rule 28 discretion feature. What that means:

Change to results based discipline: Fine for a major+games based on injury suffered and stop letting superstars off. Alex Ovechkin constantly leaves his feet when he hits people, why no charging calls on him? Chris Pronger...
