The Green & White Show Volume XXVIII
In this week’s edition of the Green & White Show with Joseph Haas & Jinx Grand, your hosts get it started bright and early and bring you that football Sunday feel on a Saturday morning! We start off with Geno Smith’s turnover-free performance in the win against the Atlanta Falcons. Earning AFC Offensive Player of the Week, Geno played under-control and in-control of the New York Jets offense as they used a balanced attack (22 rush & 20 pass) to shorten the game and give themselves every opportunity to earn the victory. I give my take on the wildcat, while JG commends OC Marty Mornhinweg’s use of formations to keep the defense on their toes. We discuss Kellen Winslow Jr. and his four-game suspension by the NFL for violation of the performance-enhancing drug program. Antonio Cromartie will be a game-time decision with a hyper-extended knee he suffered in practice. Santonio Holmes and Dee Milliner will also miss the game against the winless Pittsburgh Steelers. It doesn’t take us long to commend the defense for the extraordinary play. Mo Wilkerson seems to be the best player on the field in every game he plays. Damon Harrison and Sheldon Richardson are making plays in the middle, while Davis Harris seems to make every tackle. Demario Davis and Quinton Coples are adjusting to new positions nicely. The Jets have been stout against the run all season, and will need to do the same this Sunday.
In What Jets Said, Rex Ryan values David Garrard’s experience while Garrard let’s be known he knows exactly what his role is on the team. With four QBs on the roster, we discuss the roles of each. With Mo Wilkerson performing like one of the best players in the league, some whisper of a long-term contract. Mo gives his take on what he’d like to see happen. OC Mornhinweg praises Brian Winters as the rookie made his first start against the Falcons. He also comments on the addition of Zach Sudfeld, and we discuss how he’ll be used in place of Winslow.
In Rumors, Roster & The Rest, Sanchez has shoulder surgery and will miss the remainder of the season. We get into how Cro’s injury could impact the defense. Can Kyle Wilson really play as the top CB? Even though the Jets have a solid run defense, the Steelers will still attempt to run the football. Will the pass more with less than 100% Cromartie on the outside. Is HC Mike Tomlin on the hot seat? Hacking the NYJ for us is our player-expert Nolan Hack (@NolanHack). This week, we get into Jets versus Steelers. He gives us his keys to victory and more… in this week’s edition of Hackin’ the NYJ.
Lauren Beasley (@LBeasley313) joins us in this week’s edition of The Rest Report, where she updates us on the other teams in the AFC East. First up, we talk about the Buffalo Bills, the Byrd situation and starting QB Thad Lewis. Yes, Thad Lewis! We talk about the Miami Dolphins and their 3-2 record. Two straight losses after three wins has us asking: Who are the Miami Dolphins? New England takes on the Saints without Rob Gronkowski, who still hasn’t made it all the way back from forearm and back surgery. Tom Brady’s lack of weapons makes us ask if the Patriots will regret letting Wes Welker go… in this week’s edition of The Rest Report with Lauren Beasley.
SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT: Congratulations to Jinx Grand, as he’ll be interviewing young Jets fans at MetLife Stadium for the New York Jets!! Look for him on the jumbotron!!
In the Great Debate, we start with a look at this week’s Thursday Night game. The Chicago Bears send the New York Giants to an unbelievable 0-6 with a 27-21 victory. We try to find answers for how the Giants have fallen so far so fast. Eli Manning is turning the ball over like never before, and the defense’s pass-rush lacks punch. The offensive line is a mess and things don’t look to be getting any better. We talk a little hockey, and Tomas Hertl’s four-goal performance against the New York Rangers. I get on my soap-box about hockey’s inability to market a great sport. We throw JG In The Box for our NHL update on the locals. The New Rangers have looked brutal during on their west coast trip, getting crushed by the Sharks and the Ducks in successive games 9-2 & 6-0!
Next up, we talk Jadaveon Clowney. Coach Steve Spurrier admitted all sides might have mishandled the injury situation from the week prior, where Clowney pulled himself out of the lineup prior to a game. The conversation takes a turn to NCAA eligibility rules, and I give an idea for how players like Clowney and Johnny Manziel could be drafted.
