The Family Trophy Case: Grahame Family Edition
The woman in this photo is Charlotte Grahame, long-time Avs exec. The goalie is her son John. They both have their names on the Cup, the first mother-son combination to do so.
Charlotte's husband and John's dad is Ron Grahame, who was no slouch in the trophy department either. He was named to the All-American team while playing for University of Denver, and won the WHA AVCO Cup in 1975 with the Houston Aeros. He also won two Ben Haskin Trophies as WHA's best goalie. Ron also won the WHA playoff MVP.
Side note: When the Avs won the Cup in 2001, Charlotte got her name on the Cup, but so did Ray Bourque. Why is that significant? The Boston Bruins acquired the 1979 first overall draft pick by trading Ron Grahame to the LA Kings.
The 1979 first overall pick was a kid named Ray Bourque.
