Since we're in the spirit of March Madness I figured today was as good a day as any to really dive in to the only legitimate tie Northwestern has to the epic sporting event - the fact we hosted the very first NCAA Tournament Championship in 1939.Many of you know this tidbit, but like me don't know the details. Yes, you know Patten Gym was the site of the first ever title - Oregon beat Ohio State 46-33 on March 27, 1939 - but the Patten Gym that is on Northwestern's campus is a completely different building than the one that hosted the inaugural event.
