The VSU Rams make history by becoming only the third 11th seed team to make the Final Four by beating the No. 1 Kansas Jayhawks 71-61 on Sunday.
"Once again we felt like nobody really thought we could win going into the game. But these guys believed we could win. They knew we could win. We talked before the game about how nobody else really matters, what they think. That's our theme throughout the NCAA tournament since we were selected. Our guys have done a phenomenal job putting all the doubters aside, putting all the people that didn't believe in us aside and going out and doing their job." Shaka Smart, VCU head coach said.
With 26 second left on the shot clock, VCU's Joey Rodriguez made a horrible shot that helped the Jayhawks catch up one last time 57-52. Thats when Rodriguez responded with a 3, a Burgess 3, and a layup by Rodriguez for a VCU 8 point lead with less than 2:00 to play in the game. That's when the Rams realized they had pulled off one of the greatest upsets in the history of the NCAA.
Shaka Smart thanked the fans after cutting off the nets and added "We're not done yet."
The VCU Rams will play the Butler Bulldogs in the Final Foul on April 2nd at 6:09 pm on CBS.
