Surprsing Season for Carlos Beltran

Everyone knew top player Jose Reyes would make the National League All-Star team, but did anyone think Carlos Beltran would make the team?

Beltran has been surprising this season, playing the most games then any other Met this season which lead him to his 6th All-star selection. He was only expected to play about 3 games per week.

“From the first day he showed up in spring training, he’s been one of the most professional people I’ve ever been around,” Collins said. “I’m so happy for him. For a guy that we were hoping was going to play three days a week, the guy’s on the All-Star team. That tells you the way he’s approached it.”

Beltran also has very good numbers this season, overshadowed by Reyes' performance. Carlos is batting .280 with 12 HR and 54 RBI's with an on base percentage .010 more then his career at .370.

He is second in the NL with doubles, smacking 23 of them, 1 shy of Arizona's Chris Young.

Bruce Bochy, the San Fransisco Giants' manager, had 4 manager picks. He used three of them on his players, but his last manager pick was Carlos Beltran.

With his 6th all-star selection this season, Beltran might be worth more in a trade because he made the all-star team.

And if you think Andrew McCutchen is good, Beltran is just a little bit better, as McCutchen didn't make the team.

The Giants seem to be one of those teams who want Beltran for the remainder of the season.

Why else would Bochy select Beltran with his manager selection?

He wants to make a push with the Giants for another chance at the World Series and Beltran fits in great because they need a bat in their order.

If the Mets can get Chris Dominguez (3B) from the Giants, The Mets would do it in a heartbeat, but obviously, we don't know if the Giants are as interested as it seems.

Anyway, Carlos is very thankful and excited to make another appearance in the all-star game. Though he may not play because Bochy said he won't use everyone on his team, Beltran has done a lot to get where he is at today.

“I have to thank God for that,” Beltran said after Sunday’s victory over the Yankees. “He has seen the effort that I have done for the rehab, this offseason and in spring training. He has rewarded me with being in the All-Star game. So it’s a great feeling.”

It has really been incredible with what Beltran has done this year. From his knees, to having 54 runs batted in in one half of the season, Beltran is an all-star in my book. He is also a leader and continues to help the young guys on the bench. All in all, Beltran is an all-star, whether he will be traded is yet to be seen.
