My weekly Sunday Snapshot blog gives me an opportunity to look back on my sleeper picks from the past week and rate their performance.
Travis Snider
I recommended Snider despite what was thought to be a minor wrist injury, qualifying my recommendation by saying "assuming this wrist injury doesn't turn into something more serious." Unfortunately, that is exactly what happened. Snider was placed on the 15-day DL with a sprained wrist, but should rejoin the team on May 30. He could still be a worthwhile option in deeper leagues upon his return.
Troy Glaus
I saw Glaus as a viable corner infield option in mixed leagues who should surpass the 20 home run plateau for the 9th time in his 13 MLB seasons. He went on to hit .308 for the week with two home runs and four RBI's, putting him on pace for 22 home runs on the year. He still looks like a solid corner infielder in mixed leagues, but be wary of his cold streaks.
Luke Scott
When I recommended Scott he was hitting .313 for the month of May after a rough start to the season. Now he's even hotter after batting .462 on the week with three home runs and eight RBI's. This performance ranks him as one of the top 15 fantasy options over the past week. Continue to use Scott as a stopgap fantasy outfielder while he is hitting well.
Mat Latos
I recommended Latos as he went into a two-start week with a streak of 17 scoreless innings. That streak was broken as he allowed two earned runs over six innings of work against the San Francisco Giants. He left the game in line to earn his third win of the season, but the Padres bullpen was unable to hold the lead. In his second start of the week he was slowed by a migraine headache but was able to throw six innings, allowing just one run. He earned the win as the Padres defeated the Seattle Mariners 8-1. Fantasy wise, I see Latos as an end of rotation starter in mixed leagues with the potential to develop into more as the season progresses.
