My weekly Sunday Snapshot blog gives me an opportunity to look back on my sleeper picks from the past week and rate their performance.
Johnny Cueto
I recommended Cueto as a long-term option in all mixed leagues. Over the month of May he has gone 4-0 with 37 strikeouts. Cueto has only allowed three runs over his last four starts. This week he went six innings against the lowly Pirates, striking out nine while allowing just three hits. His performance helped temporarily secure the NL Central lead for his Cincinnati Reds. Continue to start Cueto in all formats and pick him up if he is unowned in your league—he shouldn't be.
Corey Hart
I recommended Hart as a stopgap option in mixed leagues this week because he was on a tear. He continued his hot streak, hitting four home runs, including a grand slam. He drove in 10 runs on the week and surpassed his home run total of 12 from last season. I don't expect Hart to continue at this torrid pace for much longer, but you could probably get another decent week or two out of him in mixed leagues if you are in desperate need of outfield help.
Jose Bautista
Like Hart, Bautista is playing over his head to start the season, but it is hard to ignore his production. I recommended owners add him and ride out his hot streak before moving on to a more favorable option. Bautista delivered this week with two home runs and six RBI's. He now leads the AL in home runs and ranks in the top five in RBI and runs scored. Continue to use Bautista if you own him, but watch him closely as he could go ice cold rather quickly.
Overall it was a good week for my sleepers, all three continued to perform at a high level. Sure Hart and Bautista are looking at a regression in the near future, but they provide instant value in the short term. Cueto on the other hand looks like a guy to keep rostered and potentially start for the duration of the season.
