Yesterday saw a great performance by both Liverpool and Cardiff in the Carling Cup final. After a Dirk Kuyt strike in extra time looked to have secured the win for Liverpool, a late equaliser from Ben Turner sent the tie to a penalty shootout. It didn’t look good for Liverpool after normally reliable penalty taker Steven Gerrard has his penalty saved by Tom Heaton, and Charlie Adam hit a penalty that Johnny Wilkinson would have been proud of. Thankfully for Liverpool, Cardiff also had major penalty trouble, ending in a miss by Anthony Gerrard to give Liverpool their first trophy in six years.
