South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier spoke to the media on Wednesday to discuss the upcoming matchup between the Gamecocks and the Kentucky Wildcats. 

Coach Spurrier spoke about Connor Shaw, Mike Davis and the offense of today's SEC. Here are a few notes from the Head Ball Coach:

  • -- Spurrier said that his team is actually pretty healthy at this point in the season.

  • -- Spurrier talked about how Connor Shaw went out with an injury against UCF but will be ready to play on Saturday against Kentucky. He said he was out at practice on Tuesday throwing the ball around a little bit.

  • -- He said that it was a good win against UCF on Saturday but that the Gamecocks had some coverage breakdowns at the end of the game making it a close game.

  • -- Coach Spurrier said that Kentucky's players have played extremely hard this year. He mentioned their defense has played "very tough" all year.

  • -- Spurrier did admit that Kentucky is capable of beating the Gamecocks.

  • -- Spurrier said that the offenses today are a bit different than they were 20 years ago. He mentioned that teams are spreading it out more and there were probably more long plays than there was a while back.

  • -- Coach talked about Mike Davis and his long runs have been a bonus so far this season for the Gamecocks. Spurrier said Davis is a good back and they'll have to keep giving it to him.

  • -- Spurrier did say that they'll have to get a backup ready especially with Brandon Wilds out with an injury.

  • -- Spurrier said that he was thrilled they have two quarterbacks who are capable of playing for the Gamecocks. He said he thought they were very good players.
