Luke Babbitt slipped all the way down to 16 in the NBA Draft. I thought he would have gone to Utah at nine.
Babbitt was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves, but his rights were later traded to Portland for Martell Webster.
Reports say the Blazers will release fellow trade partner with Babbitt, Ryan Gomes. So, that only leaves Luke Babbitt for Webster.
I see Babbitt having great success with the Blazers. He will split time at small forward with Nicholas Batum. Babbitt could leapfrog Batum for the starting spot if he impresses in the Summer.
Luke Babbitt dominated for Nevada, but was he in too weak of a conference? I don't think so, because Gordon Hayward and Paul George went before Babbitt and played at a mid-major school.
He also can shoot the basketball with the best of them. At Nevada he shot about 90% from the free throw line and a sharpshooter from mid-range.
I expect Luke Babbitt to be a great fit in Portland and eventually start for them.
Minnesota should've kept Babbitt, because Portland got a major steal.
