IT'S OVER --- UW 79-64.

MORE HIGHLIGHTS --- Gant had another fantastic flush.

BACK TO THE THREAD --- While I was away, the Huskies put the game in the ice box. And there were a few ESPN-worthy highlights performed as well. Bryan-Amaning's dunk over Zimmerman will make Sports Center. And Darnell Gant also had a nasty flush that he'll put his personal highlight video. UW 75-58 at 2:03.

GETTING CHIPPY --- Andrew Zimmerman tossed Pondexter to the floor while wrestling for a rebound. Zimmerman thought he was given his fifth foul and nearly walked off the court when officials put the ball in play. Thomas scored on a long jumper. And on the other end, Jarrett Mann collected a technical foul. UW 52-37 at 8:42.

SLOWING DOWN --- Got to slow down on the thread and write the game story. UW 46-35 at 11:39.

MONTY SCOUTING --- Cal coach Mike Montgomery is sitting a few seats away from me behind the UW bench. He's taking copious notes.

MEDIA TIMEOUT --- If not for Fields (16 points) this game wouldn't be close. He's a one-man wrecking crew. It's not as if he's been lights out, but UW has to commit so much energy and man power in slowing him down that it effects everything it does. The Huskies are a few baskets away from putting this game away. UW 46-35 at 11:39.

SHORT LEASH --- Gaddy tossed a turnover that led to Stanford points and Romar called for Overton. The freshman guard doesn't have a lot of room to make mistakes, especially when the stakes are this high. Gaddy came in with about 15 minutes left and drained a three-pointer on his first offensive possession. UW 44-31 at 14:02.

STANFORD TIMEOUT --- Momentum is wearing purple. Thomas drained a three-pointer and Holiday found Pondexter for a tomahawk dunk that put UW ahead 36-22 at 17:53. As he walked off to the sideline, Thomas said: "They're about to give up." He may be right.

SECOND HALF --- Same starters.

HALFTIME OBSERVATIONS --- Sluggish start for the Huskies. Despite the poor shooting, they continued to push the pace and it doesn't look as if Stanford can play at this tempo.

The key in the second half is slowing down Fields. He has 10 points. The Cardinal are giving him a touch on every possession and Holiday is doing a fine job so far.

The other key is being patient against Stanford's zone and not settling for early three-pointers. Even if the Huskies put up bad shots, they're better served to shoot layups because they could get some putbacks. If they shoot treys, the rebound goes long and there's no chance putbacks.

STATS --- Click here.

HALFTIME --- UW 28-19.

FIELDS AGAIN --- Not sure if Romar can keep Holiday on the bench for too much longer. Fields is torching Scott Suggs because he's bigger and stronger. Suggs, however, sank a three-pointer, which might earn him some more minutes. UW 23-14 at 3:08.

BRYAN-AMANING PICKS UP TWO --- Bryan-Amaning collected his second foul on a dribble drive fastbreak. He's on the bench and Tyreese Breshers is in. UW 20-12 at 4:23.

MEDIA TIMEOUT --- On the bench, Overton looked at his teammates and said: "This is a crazy game." Truer words were never spoken. Still, crazy only begins to describe what's happening. If the Huskies would only finish around the rim, this might be an early blowout. As it is, Stanford is still very much in contention. UW 14-8 at 7:48.

THE OVERTON EFFECT --- Overton has harassed Da'Veed Dildy into a pair of offensive fouls. The junior guard simply can't get the ball pass Overton. UW 11-8 at 8:18.

STANFORD GOES ZONE --- The Cardinal have switched to a zone defense, which is a little odd for it. UW 11-6 at 9:56.

AT THIS RATE ... --- ... these guys might not break 40 points. UW is 3 for 16 and shooting 18.8 percent while Stanford is 3 for 12 and shooting 25 percent. UW 8-6.

BIG BLOCK --- Mann charged to the rim for a basket, but Bryan-Amaning swatted his shot into press row. The ball sailed at me and my cohort Don Ruiz at the News Tribune had a chance for a nice grab, but it slid off his fingers. UW 6-6.

POINT-BLANK MISSES --- First Pondexter missed a dunk and then Holiday blew a layup. The poor shooting continues. UW 6-4 at 12:13.

HORRIBLE SHOOTING --- UW is 1 for 10 and Stanford is 1 for 7. The Huskies are pushing the ball at every opportunity and they're rushing their shot just a bit. Still, the UW coaches are telling them to run and the staff doesn't seem to mind the misses right now. UW 4-2 at 14:44.

HOLIDAY STARRING --- Holiday has a rebound, a steal and a block. He's looking sensational. UW 4-2.

FIRST SUB --- At 17:04, Venoy Overton replaced Gaddy. UW 2-2.

HARD FALL --- The Huskies held their breaths after Pondexter landed hard on the floor while trying to secure a rebound. UW 2-0 at 19:03.

STARTERS --- No change for UW: Abdul Gaddy, Quincy Pondexter, Justin Holiday, Matthew Bryan-Amaning and Thomas.

Stanford: G/F Landry Fields, G Drew Shiller, G Jarrett Mann, G Jeremy Green and F Jack Trotter.

NO GLOVE --- Isaiah Thomas is warming up without the purple padded glove he wore for parts of Friday's game.

WHAT'S AT STAKE --- No. 1 Cal toppled No. 5 UCLA in the early semifinal, which sets up a win-and-in scenario for the Huskies as it pertains to the NCAA tournament. A loss puts them back on the bubble, but a win virtually guarantees a ticket to the Big Dance.

IT'S OVER --- UW 79-64.
