KEY STATS:

SAN ANTONIO SPURS

KAWHI LEONARD: 14 POINTS & 7 REBOUNDS

TONY PARKER: 13 POINTS & 9 ASSISTS

TIM DUNCAN: 17 MINUTES PLAYED

MEMPHIS GRIZZLIES

TONY ALLEN: 15 POINTS & 3-3 FROM 3

ZACH RANDOLPH: 2 POINTS

Spurs started their season off by beating one of the many Western Conference powerhouses in the Memphis Grizzlies. Spurs showed in tonights game that they should still be the favorite to take the West. They were lead by young forward Kawhi Leonard, using his extremely large hands to step into passing lanes and lead the Spurs on the fast-break. Players like Matt Bonner and Patty Mills came off the bench launching shots from the parking lot. Tony Parker wasn't really up to par tonight, but the Spurs bench absolutely dominated tonight so all the Spurs needed was a smart ball-handler.

THINGS WE LEARNED

KAWHI HAS ARRIVED

Most NBA fans really got their first taste of Leonard in the 2013 NBA Finals against the Miami Heat. Where Kawhi was averaging 16 points and 10 rebounds. With the big three aging, the Spurs should be ready to put some of the ball club on Leonard's shoulders.

POP HAS FIGURED Z-BO OUT

We all remember when the 8th seed Grizzlies beat the number one seed in the San Antonio Spurs. That year, Zach Randolph absolutely destroyed the Spurs. He took shots from all angles and the Spurs couldn't find the answer. Since that playoff match-up, Z-Bo has really struggled against the Spurs. He finished the night with only two points and showed little effort on every play. Don't expect anything from Z-Bo in future encounters with the Spurs.

THIS COULD BE THE "YEAR" WHEN INJURIES END DUNCAN'S CAREER

"The Big Fundamental" is one of the best players in NBA history. Even to this day, he still has a consist bank-shot he can go to if the Spurs need a bucket. But, this could be coming to an end real soon. No one knows exactly how long Duncan will be out for. Maybe he wont even miss time. That's not the point, the point is, Duncan is 37 and that's not really an age where you like to take hard falls and be running after more athletic bigs. All NBA fans hope this year is not the end.
