So, from what I can see, we've had about 200 readers so far--hopefully not just my mother hitting refresh again and again. I'd like to take a moment to introduce myself.
I was born and raised in Muskegon, MI. I enjoy a good G&L Chili Dog and pizza from Mr. Scribbs. I remember a time when I considered Grand Rapids 'the big city' and going to Lumberjack minor league hockey games was the coolest thing on earth.
For highschool, I traveled across the state to Saginaw, MI and tried out for football. Played O-line and D-line at a small class D school--nothing spectacular. Still, the time of my life.
I began sportswriting there, usually writing for both my bylines and others because my paper had a strict deadline and a lazy staff. I became editor my senior year--the same year we went from print to online only...mostly a disaster.
Went to college in Minnesota, training to be a minister, I decided sometime around my junior year that it wasn't for me but I stayed for my liberal arts degree.
During college I met my beautiful wife, had a lovely child and was introduced to the sports media world.
I owe a great debt to Joel Cordes who took me under his wing as a color commentator for college football games and later as a co-host for his weekly AM sports radio show--a show I later inherited.
In my time with the Average Joe Sports Show, I interviewed Tony Romo, David West, Aaron Kampman, Michael Oher, and a host of other players from every major sport.
Warren from DraftTek.com gave me an oppurtunity in 2007 to begin writing for his website which I later turned into numerous oppurtunities at BleacherReport.com, Scout.com's Blue Blog, MLive.com's Highlight Reel, and a bunch of other stuff.
When Fan Vs. Fan asked my to start my own website here, I couldn't say no.
With your help, I want to turn this website into one of the most read Lions blogs on the web. Feel free to sign up (it's quick, free, and easy) and comment.
When you're signed up, it helps the site to "hike" articles--the FvF equivilent of the "like" button. Don't feel pressure, but if you like the article, it'll help out!
Also, please take an extra moment and follow me on Twitter. You won't regret it! I've been blessed to use that little piece of social media to befriend numerous NFL writers and athletes. 99 times out of 100, I will get you a piece of news on Twitter before you learn it anywhere else.
Finally, feel free to ask questions here or on my email (MSchottey@drafttek.com). I will do my best to answer as timely as possible.
Enjoy,
Michael A. Schottey
